Sowing seeds for seedlings takes place in March and early April. Seeds must be disinfected before planting.... They are soaked in a pink solution of potassium permanganate or hydrogen peroxide, dried, and then treated with a growth stimulant or freshly squeezed aloe juice.
The seedling soil should be nutritious and light. Purchased mixes will not work. Ideal - equal shares of garden soil and old humus. Another suitable mixture is turf and peat mixed with washed river sand. The soil is sieved before planting, and then calcined for complete disinfection. Read more about the types of soil and about the suitable soil for tomatoes in a greenhouse.
Seeds are sown with a depth of 1.5-2 cm, sprinkled with an even layer of peat, sprayed with warm water. For successful germination, the plantings are covered with foil, placing the containers in heat.
The optimum temperature is 22-24 degrees. After germination, the film must be removed, and the containers must be moved to light, closer to the sun or fluorescent lamps. Correctly formed shoots should be strong, bright green, not too elongated.
Diving of sprouts is carried out after the formation of the first true leaves. Then the plantings are fertilized with nitrogen-containing complexes that form a leaf mass. Disembarkation begins in mid-May. The soil can be spilled with hot water, and then spread over the holes a mixture of superphosphate with wood ash (1 tbsp. L. Per bush). For 1 sq. m, you can place no more than 3 plants.
For successful development, tomatoes are formed, leaving 1 or 2 stems, removing lateral processes. The growth point can be pinched. Branches with ripening fruits are recommended to be tied to supports.
During the season, plants are fed 3-4 times with complex mineral fertilizer. Fertilizers for tomatoes are also used:
- Hydrogen peroxide.
- Boric acid.
Watering tomatoes is necessary with warm, settled water, cold water can cause a massive discharge of ovaries. The topsoil should dry out slightly between waterings.
It is important to loosen the soil between the plants and weed out in a timely manner. Mulching the soil with straw, peat or humus will help to maintain a normal level of moisture.
Pests and diseases
The Golden Heart tomato variety is not too sensitive to diseases, but preventive measures must be taken. You should start by treating the soil. In the greenhouse, the topsoil is replaced annually. If the seedlings are transplanted into open beds, it is important to select areas that were previously occupied by legumes, cabbage, carrots or herbs.
Do not use the land on which other varieties of tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, eggplants grew. For prevention, the soil is spilled with a solution of potassium permanganate or copper sulfate. From late blight and fusarium wilting, regular spraying plantings with medicinal preparations... You can get rid of the fungus with a pale pink solution of potassium permanganate. It is important to ventilate the greenhouse in a timely manner, remove weeds, and pick off the lower leaves of tomatoes. The more fresh air, the greater the guarantee that the plants will not become infected with apical or root rot.
If you find darkening or curling of leaves, you need to promptly remove the affected parts of the plants, and then spray the plantings with phytosporin or other non-toxic bio-preparation. When growing, the use of fungicides is often beneficial.
Insects do great harm to plantings. Tomatoes are threatened by aphids, thrips, Colorado potato beetle, spider mites. In the beds, young plants are waiting for naked slugs, destroying fresh greens.
Spraying the plantings will help get rid of them. aqueous solution of ammonia... Soapy water saves from aphids, modern insecticides or a decoction of celandine kill the mite.
As for the Colorado potato beetle, chemical preparations can be used to combat it: Aktara, Corado, Regent, Commander, Prestige, Lightning, Tanrek, Apache, Tabu.
